How to Prepare Your Electronics for Recycling in Sugar Land
Recycling your old electronics is one of the best ways to protect our Fort Bend County environment while decluttering your home or office. At EverTrade Electronics Recycling, we make the process simple, but a little preparation ensures your electronics recycling experience goes smoothly and keeps your personal data secure.
Step 1: Back Up Important Data
Before bringing any device to our Sugar Land facility, make sure you’ve saved any files, photos, or documents you want to keep:
For Computers and Laptops:
- Transfer files to a new computer or external drive
- Check for files in Downloads, Documents, and Desktop folders
- Don’t forget browser bookmarks and saved passwords
For Smartphones and Tablets:
- Back up photos to cloud storage (Google Photos, iCloud)
- Export contacts to your new device
- Check for important documents or notes
Step 2: Sign Out of All Accounts
Remove your personal accounts from devices before recycling:
- Sign out of email accounts (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo)
- Log out of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Remove devices from Apple ID or Google accounts
- Sign out of banking and shopping apps
Step 3: Perform a Factory Reset
Smartphones and Tablets:
- iPhone: Settings โ General โ Reset โ Erase All Content and Settings
- Android: Settings โ System โ Reset โ Factory Data Reset
Computers:
- Windows: Settings โ Update & Security โ Recovery โ Reset this PC
- Mac: System Preferences โ Disk Utility โ Erase (then reinstall macOS)
Step 4: Remove or Destroy Storage Devices
For extra security with business computers:
- Remove hard drives if possible
- Our team at EverTrade can provide secure hard drive destruction services
- We follow industry best practices for data destruction
Step 5: Gather Accessories
Bring these items when possible:
- Power cords and chargers
- Keyboards and mice
- Cables and adapters
- Original boxes (helpful but not required)
Don’t worry if you’re missing items – we accept electronics in any condition!

- LCD monitors (sorry, no old CRT monitors)
Items We Don’t Accept
- Kitchen appliances
- Large household appliances
- CRT monitors and tube TVs
- Batteries (except those inside devices)
