The simple rule: if it plugs in or runs on a battery, we most likely take it. The exceptions are CRT (tube-style) TVs and monitors, which we no longer accept, and loose batteries, which must be inside a device or have their terminals taped. What About Data Security?
This is the question every business asks, and the reason you shouldn't just dump old computers in a dumpster or hand them to the first scrap collector who drives by.
At EverTrade, every hard drive and storage device goes through a NIST SP 800-88-aligned data destruction process. That means your data is either:
- Sanitized using a NIST SP 800-88-aligned process when the drive is eligible for reuse
- Physically disabled before recycling when the drive is not reusable, with a Certificate of Destruction for business jobs

Why Not Just Throw Electronics in the Trash?

Is it really free? What's the catch?
No catch for the vast majority of items. Electronics contain valuable materials, copper, gold, palladium, aluminum. We recover those materials through responsible recycling, which is how we sustain our business. You get free disposal; we get raw materials. Do I need to erase my data first?
We recommend it as a best practice, but it's not required. Every data-bearing device we receive is wiped or physically disabled as part of our standard process.

Yes. Businesses receive a serialized Certificate of Destruction documenting each device that was processed. This documentation is important for compliance with HIPAA, SOX, FACTA, and other regulations.
