A UPS battery backup is the whole unit: the box that sits under a computer or in a rack, with the battery still inside. Tower units and small rack units from a home office are both accepted, working or not.
Leave the battery installed. Do not open the case to pull the battery out. Loose batteries that are not inside a UPS are not accepted.
Unplug the unit and let it sit switched off before you put it in the car. You can leave the power cord attached.
